Toss 3 fresh sliced peaches with 1 tablespoon brown sugar and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract; set aside until juicy, about 30 minutes.

Whip 1 cup heavy cream until it thickens, then beat in 4 teaspoons brown sugar. Add 4 teaspoons bourbon and beat until soft peaks form. Layer the peaches and cream in dessert glasses; top with toasted pecans.

Drink heavily during preparation.

I'm thinking no on the nuts though. I don't want the smooth creamy experience to be ruined by crunch.

Generally, do you command a serious answer?

pretty much, i'm looking to broaden my horizons. also, be sure to include a recommendation on a good after dinner drink.

depends on your company

sfobv

a glass of sherry might be appropriate with elderly folk
to impress shaunita perhaps something like a Lychee Caprioska
if out with the lads an expensive scotch neat ofc cigar optional
cask / goon wine like a boxed lambrusco will impress the panhandling inlaws
for that harmless shaunita-doesnt-need-to-know after-work dinner with the secretary, a non-terrible vodka like grey goose

if alone, alcohol is sfterrible obv and kick back with your friendly pipe

but to really 'broaden' your horizons, I'm afraid you'll require some lsd. and you should be afraid. very very afraid fml

OK serious answer...

In no particular order:

Vodka Drinks
Because vodka has relatively no distinctive flavor, it blends well with almost anything. If you like fruity, chocolaty, sour, citrus or sticky-sweet, vodka is your drink. It also does well with non-sweet, understated flavors like garlic olives, or just a breath of lemon or mint. It's pretty much the all-round, go-to, all-occasions liquor. You can't go wrong with vodka. Just make sure you're not buying it in a plastic bottle.

Amber Microbrews
If you develop a taste for beer, the amber ales are wonderful. They offer the full flavor of darker beers without the bitterness or "thick" feeling. These go great with red meats, spicy foods, and sports. Always serve in a chilled mug or beer glass, as every drop should be frosty cold. I like the pilsner glass (I keep a few in the freezer at all times), but if you are a true beer aficionado, you'll use the glass that best brings out the flavor of the beer you are drinking. Beer is an acquired taste, so don't be disappointed if your first experience doesn't knock your socks off.

Dry Red Wines
If you're a foodie, you need to learn to love dry red wine. I don't care if it's a Cabernet, a Malbec, or a red zin - if it's French, Italian, Bolivian or from Lodi in California.... it doesn't matter a whit. You just need to learn how to compliment good food with red wine. It's an art, and every new wine and food combination you try brings you closer to bliss. This is a lifelong project, so you might as well start now. (Stay away from white wine - it's for fags and women with bad taste.) Red wine should be served at about 60 degrees. Since you don't have a wine cellar, the easiest thing to do is stick the bottle in the fridge when you start cooking, and take it out about 20 minutes before you serve. I also recommend a burgundy-style, bubble-shaped wine goblet for full enjoyment.

Might come back and finish this later. But this should be enough to get you started on the wonderful path to alcoholism. L'Chaim!

it's more of the hard liquor drinks that i'm thinking about here. for example, if you have a Scotch or mixed drink suggestion that would be good.

to put it in context, i'm thinking of something you would have before dinner in an upscale restaurant. i'm also interested in after dinner drinks suggestions as well

i typically just go with a Belgian type beer. my favorites being Delirium, Hoegarden and Blue Moon. the other drinks i occasionally go with are Captain and Coke and Grey Goose dirty martinis (makes me a girl i believe). also margaritas, mojitos and sangria where available and appropriate.

Oh - I thought you were saying you basically never drink, so I was starting from ground zero.

I usually drink a Ketel One dirty martini before dinner at a restaurant. Sometimes a margarita if I'm some place they make them well. I also like Mojitos. So I guess I can't offer you any suggestions beyond what you already know of. (I hate scotch and I don't drink any mixed drinks that have cola in them.) I'd say keep drinking what you're drinking. Sounds like you have good taste.

what the hell is a lychee?

A lychee is a sfgod tropical fruit.

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_gQTAUZ2WL9g/S6uEuj7LMuI/AAAAAAAAADQ/oLGiNA42b24/s400/lychee.jpg

A lychee caprioska is just a variant on your standard caprioska [fairly common cocktail - i quite fancy the sugar rim (like a marguerita's salt rim, but with sugar obv) - wow I really over-explained that didn't I] where lychee-infused vodka is used.

http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:tdi_NPSxWKun9M:http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c94/iheartmakeup/qld16.jpg&t=1

lychees are amazing but they make an already somewhat limp-wristed cocktail just fractionally more limp-wristed. which obv is fine for someone like me, who can pull off limp-wrist [if you know what I mean :brag] but for less feminine / pretty men, the caprioska is still god but maybe kick it with ginger-infused vodka or something more Manly imo. nothing says I am a Man's man like ginger or chilli-infused vodka, with a twist of lime.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2484/3623940758_89f2da3bbf.jpg?v=0

also, when you say an expensive scotch, i'm going to need a specific brand, type, year, etc.

um cognac is actually far superior to scotch. scotch is a good gateway drink [maybe like mdma] to cognac which would be like mainlining smack. obv you want to be mainlining the good shit, not fucking around with children - not outside the bedroom in any case

If you're going to go a Scotch, probably the most common middle-range scotch in the world would be Johnnie Walker Black ? i think...JW Red is like for cooking and alcoholics, JW Blue is pretentious overkill imo, JW Black is fairly respectable, if a bit generic

But once you get into cognac, well...doors are opened. I actually had a very mild problem which was easily addressed cause alcohol is sfterrible at the end of the day, but I was over-drinking the shit for awhile there and like literally warm and chilled and happy drunk every day for a few months. goes great with xanax

http://rocketcarryout.com/images/hennessy_xo_gb_2.jpg

umm my favourite cognac was Hennesey XO but there are like ranges of ridiculousness. I bought an opponent a bottle of Louis XIII which is like some ludicrous obscene amount like 2k /bottle

http://definitivetouch.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/RemyMartin_LouisXIII_Cognac.jpg

[in my defence, he let me ck/c allin for like a 2000bb pot at 25/50 with quads on the flop and no one has done anything nice like that for me for ages] - but I digress, basically 2k/bottle 'renowned' label and I honest-to-god think Hennessey XO owns its face. RemyMartin are sfterrible, don't ever make that mistake with generic RemyMartin. filthy nigger cognac

cognac is pretty pimp drink to be honest. i'm a bit ashamed i didn't flat-out suggest it to you. it should have been really like my only suggestion, highlighted and in bold etc. to stand out

you drink it neat obv in a slightly heated glass - which is actually the best thing about cognac, the glass. it's very much yup - says a lot about you. all of which is good i suspect.

ugh mojitos are sfhorrible

honest to god I spent like 4-6 frustrated min looking for the recipe to ginger/cucumber-infused caprioska but google failed me. the closest i could find was this:

cucumber caprioska
house-infused ginger vodka muddled with cucumber,
lemon-lime, finished with ginger brew

when done well they are srsly amazing though, I'd strongly recommend a chili-infused vodka sub if you like chili also. chili cocktails as a general rule are pretty amazing actually
